Praised for his compelling artistry and wide-ranging repertoire, Czech pianist Jakub Sládek has performed across Europe, from Germany, Austria and France to Spain, Greece, and the UK. His first solo performance with orchestra came at the age of ten; since then, he has appeared as soloist with the Brno Philharmonic, the Brno Symphony Orchestra, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, PKF – Prague Philharmonia, the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
A prizewinner at numerous national and international competitions – including Virtuosi per Musica di Pianoforte, AMADEUS, Prague Junior Note, International Piano Competition Košice, the National Piano Competition of Art Schools in Czech Republic, “A Step towards mastery” Piano Competition in St. Petersburg, the Ettlingen Piano Competition in Germany, the International Leoš Janáček Piano Competition, the Marbella International Piano Competition, the Campillos International Piano Competition, etc. – he has recently been selected as a finalist for the 65th Busoni International Piano Competition in 2025. He is currently undertaking a major long-term recording project for Toccata Classics: the complete piano works of the late 20th-century Czech émigré composer Jan Novák, to be released over three CDs in the coming decade.
Jakub’s musical journey began in his native Brno at the age of six. He went on to earn his master’s degree from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he studied with František Malý and received the Nadjezda Pochlebina-Sazina Prize for the best graduate of the piano department. In 2023, he graduated with highest honours from the Artist Diploma programme at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, studying with Ronan O’Hora and Noriko Ogawa. His artistic development has been further shaped by extensive work with Ivan Klánský, Avedis Kouyoumdjian and Viktorie Švihlíková, as well as masterclasses with Dame Imogen Cooper, Christian Blackshaw, Joanna MacGregor, Cristina Ortiz, Lukáš Vondráček, Andrea Bonatta and Grigory Gruzman.
He is a recipient of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Prize and gratefully acknowledges the support of Talent Unlimited Trust, the Drake Calleja Trust, the Kathleen Trust, the Czech Music Trust Foundation, the Jan Hus Foundation, and the Czech Ministry of Culture.
